How do passive medical alert systems work?
Many seniors and elderly frail care users are now moving towards the purchase of some form of medical alert system. But consumers should understand the various differences between active and passive life alert type systems. The active medical alert system provides for where the user physically presses a button and this triggers an alert to be placed with the emergency services. This is the most common form of medical alert system, and many variations of this type of system are commonplace. Variations of this type of system include features such as fall alert type functionality that monitors whether the user has had a fall, and body functioning checks to see whether the users skin temperature or other conditions have been met. With the passive type of systems, the senior citizen will activate the alarm several times a day to let others know that everything is okay. This system relies on the user actually triggering the system to let others know that all is well, rather than the other way around. A lack of a trigger is actually the call to action for the emergency services personnel or other care givers to act. If the alarm is inactive for a certain pre-defined period of time, then people can assume that there is an emergency in the home. Usually a call will be placed to the home to see whether the user simply forgot to trigger the device, as this is usually what might have happened. Obviously each type of system is more appropriate for different type of uses, and you need to select whichever type of system is appropriate for your own situation.
